UT Health Quitman receives five-star rating

Quitman, Texas (February 7, 2020) —  UT Health Quitman has achieved five out of five stars for quality and performance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the organization’s annual ratings.

“We are proud of the amazing job our caregivers perform daily in making UT Health Quitman one of the best hospitals in the country,” said UT Health Quitman CEO Patrick Swindle.

CMS’s Hospital Compare tool evaluates quality measures in seven areas to calculate overall ratings: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging.

The overall hospital rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S. Less than 9 percent of hospitals received a five-star rating, according to the most recent results. The most common hospital ratings are three and four stars, with almost 50 percent of hospitals receiving one of those ratings.

“Our journey to achieving five stars has been a multi-year approach by our entire team of caregivers and is proof of our dedication, hard work, and commitment to the delivering of quality care to the residents of Wood County,” Swindle said.
